Great Horned Owl

Create a realistic Great Horned Owl using the Appli-bond method. The owl measures 12" high. If you listen you can almost hear him hoot. A unique technique for cattalis is also taught.

  • Basic sewing supplies
  • White marking pencil*
  • Blue water soluble pen*
  • Cutting Board / Rotary cutter / ruler
  • Template material
  • Feather Template*
  • Appli-bond needles*
  • Embroidery floss: (black, brown, beige and white)
  • Glue-baste-it or glue stick (optional)*
  • Solvy water soluble stabilizer: 6" X 12"*
  • Permanent marking pen
  • Heat N Bond ultra hold iron on Adhesive (no substitutions): 1 1/2 yd*

Needs List - Fabrics

  • Background, boarders and bindings 1 yd
  • Boarder contrast: 1/3 yd
  • Foundation, breast feathers and tail (variegated brown & white) : 1/4 yd.
  • Breast accent feathers (med brown): 1/8 yd.
  • Wing feathers, eye accents and ear tufts: 1/8 yd.
  • Neck accent (white): scraps
  • Head and eyes (light yellow/brown): 1/8 yd.
  • Face(tan): 1/8 yd.
  • Eyes (yellow/orange): scraps
  • Tree trunks: 1/4 yd
  • Grass ( 2 shades tan): 1/8 yd. each shade
  • Cattails: tan and brown scraps

Sewing machines are not needed. An iron and ironing surface would be very helpful.

Complete kits for the Owl and Cattails are available in class for $38.00. The kit includes the required $5.00 pattern, all fabrics: borders, bindings and background. Also included are the Heat N Bond, Solvy water-soluble stabilizer and embroidery floss.

Kits are highly recommended. They allow the student to complete more in class. Please let me know how many kits you need in advance.
